Labour and Welfare Secretary outlines assistance for FDH affected by Tai Po fire

2/12/2025 17:23
Secretary for Labour and Welfare Chris Sun has stated that among the 235 foreign domestic helpers working at Wang Fuk Court in Tai Po, 10 have died, 3 were injured, and 30 remain unaccounted for.

Authorities have indicated that they will provide HK$800,000 in compensation for each deceased domestic helper. Injured foreign domestic helpers will be given HK$50,000 or HK$100,000 subsidies, depending on the duration of their hospitalization.

All helpers who escaped without injury will receive a consolation payment of HK$20,000 and an Octopus card loaded with HK$2,000.

Mr. Sun has stated that among the foreign domestic helpers at Wang Fuk Court, 94 were from the Philippines and 141 from Indonesia. Financial assistance related to the helpers will be distributed through the Labour Department and relevant consulates to ensure aid reaches recipients.

He added that in the event of a foreign domestic helper's employer passing away in a fire, the authorities would be willing to consider requests for a change of employer.

The Immigration Department is also providing emergency services to help foreign domestic helpers reissue identity documents and employment contracts that were destroyed in the fire.
