Man detained after vandalizing National Day lanterns in Sheung Shui

30/9/2024 19:34
A 51-year-old man suspected of vandalizing National Day lanterns in Sheung Shui was arrested on suspicion of criminal damage and is being held for investigation. The police initially believe that he committed the crime for personal reasons to vent his dissatisfaction with society.

The police received a report yesterday that the Home Affairs Department (HAD) had discovered four times this month that wires had been cut from the National Day lightings on the footbridge outside the Sheung Shui MTR station. The police sent officers to the scene on the same day to investigate, and found a man who looked suspicious and cut the wires of one of the lightings with pliers, and then arrested him immediately.

The police emphasized that they will take decisive action against illegal acts that attempt to disrupt public peace and ensure that celebrations related to the 11th National Day can be carried out in a safe and orderly manner.
