Security guards misunderstanding a shopper leads to complaints

10/10/2024 6:06
A woman posted a post on a social platform complaining that after paying for shopping at the chain retail store Mannings, two female security guards accused her of stealing and dragged her back into the store. Mannings apologized to the female victim and fired the two security guards involved.

The incident occurred on Tuesday morning. The female victim purchased two boxes of ointments at the Cameron Road branch of Mannings in Tsim Sha Tsui. She used a self-service payment machine to complete the payment and left. She walked about 50 meters away from the store and was choked and pulled by two women respectively. He then loudly accused her of stealing and dragged her back into the store. The female victim then showed her shopping payment receipt to the store manager and complained that she was treated roughly by two women. The manager then claimed that the two women were plainclothes security guards.

Mannings issued a statement saying that it attaches great importance to the improper treatment of the customer concerned. The management has personally expressed their apologies to the female victim. It also stated that the two plainclothes security guards involved were hired by a third-party security company. After investigation, it was believed that the two violated the security company's employee regulations. The involved staffs has been fired with immediate effect. Mannings has also decided to terminate the contract with the security company and will re-examine store security and related procedures to prevent similar incidents from happening again.
