Japan LDP leadership race heads to run-off

Japanese Economic Security Minister Sanae Takaichi and former defence minister Shigeru Ishiba will meet in a run-off vote to decide the next leader of the ruling Liberal Democratic Party (LDP), and by extension the country's prime minister. Takaichi won the most number of votes, of 181 out of a total 735 valid votes, while Ishiba came in second place with 154 votes in a field of a record nine candidates. The run-off vote will follow shortly.
