Iraq, Pakistan vow to strengthen ties, promote regional stability

Iraqi President Abdul Latif Rashid discussed with his Pakistani counterpart Asif Ali Zardari over the weekend ways to strengthen bilateral ties and promote regional stability.



According to a statement from the Iraqi presidency, both leaders emphasized the importance of "aligning positions and strengthening coordination" to contribute to regional security and stability and help ease existing tensions.



During expanded talks between their delegations, Rashid reaffirmed Iraq's commitment to deepening cooperation in cultural, scientific and economic fields, highlighting the potential of maritime connectivity and the benefits of expanding cooperation in religious tourism.



The two sides also discussed enhancing military coordination, drawing on Pakistan's expertise in air force development and pilot training, as well as boosting intelligence and security information-sharing in counterterrorism efforts.
