Egypt, UN envoy discuss Sudan crisis, call for ceasefire

Egypt's Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty on Wednesday met with UN Secretary-General's Personal Envoy for Sudan Pekka Haavisto in Cairo to discuss the ongoing Sudan crisis and ways to contain the conflict, the Egyptian Foreign Ministry said in a statement.



Abdelatty voiced Egypt's full support for the UN envoy's efforts to restore security and stability in Sudan, stressing the need to preserve the country's unity and territorial integrity, back its national institutions, and reject the creation of any parallel entities.



He also called for launching a Sudanese-owned political process to end the prolonged conflict, stressing the importance of reaching "a humanitarian truce as a preliminary step toward a sustainable ceasefire," to facilitate aid delivery and alleviate the suffering of the Sudanese people.



The Egyptian minister reaffirmed Egypt's categorical rejection of any foreign interference that could fuel or prolong the conflict, underscoring the importance of respecting Sudan's sovereignty and supporting efforts to restore calm and reach a comprehensive political settlement.
