Pakistan ex-PM Imran Khan’s life is at risk in prison, sons say

Former Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan's life is at risk due to the conditions of his prison confinement, his sons said during an emotional news conference on Aug 25, adding that efforts to visit their jailed father have hit a wall.



"My father is the toughest person I know. But he is 73 years old, and his body is paying the price for how he is being treated," Kasim Khan said during a press briefing via Zoom from London.



"At this point its looking more likely than not that he won’t be able to survive this – his stay in prison."



Kasim and his brother Sulaiman Isa also urged the international community to pressure Pakistan for human rights violations against its former premier, an ex-cricket star who remains one of Pakistan's most popular leaders despite his three years of imprisonment.



Attention on Khan has intensified in recent weeks over concerns about his health.



Earlier in August, the country's top court ordered that he be transferred to a private hospital for medical treatment.



The government challenged the order, and Khan was taken to a state-run hospital before being returned to Adiala Jail in Rawalpindi.
