Pakistan reports 8th polio case of 2026

Pakistan has reported its eighth polio case of 2026 in a 13-month-old girl from Khyber district in the country's northwest Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, the National Emergency Operations Center for Polio Eradication said Sunday.

The case is the second in Khyber district and the sixth in the province this year.

Pakistan has reported six cases of polio in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and two in southern Sindh province this year.

Four large-scale vaccination campaigns have protected more than 45 million children multiple times.

A nationwide subnational vaccination campaign will run from Monday to Sunday, targeting nearly 24 million children under five in 97 districts, including Khyber.

Polio is a highly contagious disease that can cause permanent paralysis or death but is preventable through vaccination.
