Commissioner's office of Chinese foreign ministry in HKSAR refutes judges remark

17/6/2024 6:14
The foundation of Hong Kong's rule of law and the global community's faith in Hong Kong's rule of law will not be affected by any external interference, a spokesperson for the Commissioner's Office of the Chinese Foreign Ministry in the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) said on Sunday. The spokesperson made the statement in response to the slanders made against Hong Kong's rule of law by Jonathan Sumption, a British judge who recently resigned as a non-permanent judge of the Hong Kong Court of Final Appeal, as well as the smearing campaign orchestrated by some British politicians against the HKSAR's laws to protect national security. Sumption violated professional ethics as a judge and encroached on the spirit of the rule of law when he calumniated the rule of law in the HKSAR, the spokesperson noted. Relevant propaganda hyped by British anti-China politicians revealed their twisted mentality of refusing to acknowledge Hong Kong's stability and prosperity. External forces have violated pr
inciples of the international law and basic norms governing international relations to vilify Hong Kong's laws on protecting national security and its judicial system, going to such lengths as to terrorize and threaten judges and prosecutors of the HKSAR. They are the forces who are seeking to undermine Hong Kong's rule of law, said the spokesperson. "We urge Sumption and certain British politicians to reflect on their actions and immediately stop the underhanded political manipulation," said the spokesperson.
