22/11/2024 6:19
Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian on Thursday strongly condemned a deadly "terrorist" attack earlier in the day on three passenger vehicles in the northwestern Pakistani province of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
In a statement published on his office's website, he extended condolences to the Pakistani government, the victims' families, and the people of Pakistan. The attack, launched by gunmen and took place in the tribal district of Kurram, targeted vehicles carrying Shiite Muslims, killing at least 38 people.
Pezeshkian said all forms of terrorism were condemned, adding that, as in the past, Iran would stand by the "friendly and brotherly" country of Pakistan and continue the fight against terror to ensure regional security and stability.
Pakistani police said that six women were among the fatalities, with 20 others wounded in the attack.
Official sources, speaking to Xinhua on condition of anonymity, said the passengers, who were from the eastern province of Punjab, were on their way to Parachinar area in Kurram district when they were attacked.
No group has yet claimed responsibility for the attack.
