The police arrested a 60-year-old man at Lo Wu Port in connection with multiple burglaries in industrial buildings, stealing a total of more than $470,000 in property.
The police received a report last Friday that two industrial building units in Fo Tan were burglarized, and a batch of jewelry and cash worth about $30,000 were lost.
After collecting intelligence and analyzing a large number of CCTV footage, the police successfully identified the thief and believed that he returned to the mainland after committing the crime. When the 60-year-old male suspect returned to Hong Kong via the Lo Wu Port on Wednesday, the police arrested him on suspicion of burglary. After further investigation, it is believed that the arrested man is related to 6 other similar cases. The crime locations were concentrated in Shatin, Kwai Chung and Kwun Tong. Most of them were industrial building units. Cash, mobile phones, jewelry and other property were stolen. The total loss amount was approximately $476,000.
The police said that investigations showed that thieves mostly chose to commit crimes alone late at night, breaking open the gate locks of units or sneaking into industrial building units through unlocked doors and windows to burglarize.
It is understood that the arrested man works as a transport worker and has a record of burglaries in the past. He is still being detained for investigation and will later be charged.
