1 killed, 6 injured in clash at Pakistan-Afghanistan border area

One Pakistani soldier was killed and six others injured in an exchange of fire between Afghan and Pakistani security forces at a check post in Pakistan's northwest Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province on Saturday, official sources said.



The confrontation began at approximately 10:00 a.m. local time, involving the use of heavy and light weaponry at the check post in Upper Kurram district along the Pakistan-Afghanistan border, the sources told Xinhua on condition of anonymity.



Authorities in Islamabad have not yet released an official statement on the incident.



Heavy clashes erupted between Afghanistan and Pakistan forces at border crossing points, leaving 19 Pakistani soldiers dead, according to Afghanistan's media, quoting the Afghan caretaker government's Ministry of National Defense



The clash took place following airstrikes carried out by Pakistani troops on Afghanistan's Paktika province on Tuesday night that killed 51 people.
