Yesterday was the last day of the Lunar New Year holiday, and also the peak of immigration. The Immigration Department said that as of 9pm last night, a total of 977,000 people entered and left the country at various ports.
About 606,000 people entered Hong Kong, of which nearly 70%, or more than 423,000, were Hong Kong residents. In addition, more than 160,000 mainland tourists came to Hong Kong. The largest number of people entered Hong Kong via the Luohu Port, followed by the Shenzhen Bay Port.
In terms of outbound travel, more than 371,000 people left Hong Kong, of which more than 190,000 were Hong Kong residents and more than 140,000 were mainland tourists.
