Punishment demanded for the deliberate attack on Hong Kong ice hockey team

The Hong Kong Hockey Association and Olympic Committee strongly condemned and demanded punishment for the deliberate attack on Hong Kong ice hockey team players by Turkmen players after the game.



After the Hong Kong team defeated Turkmenistan 5-1 in the men's ice hockey group C of the Asian Winter Games in Harbin on Sunday, a violent conflict broke out during the handshake between the two teams after the game, which lasted for about a minute. Several Hong Kong players fell to the ground, and some Turkmen players surrounded and beat up the fallen Hong Kong players. The referee punished three Turkmen players on the spot.



The Hong Kong Federation of Ice Hockey and the Olympic Committee issued a statement in the early morning, strongly condemning the incident, saying that the two injured Hong Kong players were fine and stable after being diagnosed by the delegation doctor and the local hospital. After the incident, the Hong Kong Ice Hockey Association of China learned the overall situation through the video footage. The head of the Hong Kong delegation of China to the Asian Winter Games, Fok Kai-kong, immediately negotiated with the International Ice Hockey Federation, the Olympic Council of Asia and the relevant units of the event coordinating, demanding disciplinary action based on facts to safeguard the personal safety of all participating athletes. The Hong Kong Federation of Ice Hockey and the Olympic Committee has asked the organizing committee to impose necessary penalties on the Turkmen athletes for deliberately attacking Hong Kong athletes after the event, causing injuries.
