Myanmar has introduced a special program allowing its citizens working abroad to import electric vehicles (EVs) and electric motorcycles, the official daily Myanma Alinn reported on Saturday.
Under the initiative, Myanmar citizens working abroad who remitted at least 50,000 U.S. dollars annually through official bank channels will be eligible to import one EV per year, with the import value capped at five percent of their total remitted amount, it said.
Their remitted amount included their salaries or other income remitted through official bank channels, it said.
In cases where the remitted amount is insufficient to cover the full cost of a vehicle, the ministry has also approved collective imports, enabling multiple individuals to pool their funds for vehicle purchases, it added.
The plan, announced by the Ministry of Commerce, aims to further promote the use of EVs in the country and contribute to environmental conservation, the report said.
