The new government of India's Delhi state, which assumed office last week, announced on Saturday that vehicles over 15 years old will not be given fuel effective from April 1.
Delhi's Environment Minister Manjinder Singh Sirsa announced that a team of officials would be set up soon to identify such vehicles and bar their entry into Delhi.
He said that multi-storey buildings, including hotels, commercial complexes and offices, must install anti-smog guns to control air pollution.
"The Delhi government will also make efforts to create artificial rains through cloud seeding to tackle air pollution," he said.
Air pollution is a burgeoning problem in Delhi, which is often described as one of the most polluted cities worldwide, particularly in terms of air pollution.
