Yamandu Orsi was sworn in Saturday as Uruguayan president for a five-year term.
Orsi, from the left-wing coalition the Broad Front, took the oath of office in parliament a little more than three months after defeating his center-right rival Alvaro Delgado in a tightly contested election.
Born in June, 1967, Orsi once worked as a school history teacher, during which he became active in local politics. Later, he became mayor of Canelones, Uruguay's second-most populous department.
