Thai PM Paetongtarn Shinawatra survives no-confidence vote in parliament

26/3/2025 12:04
Thai Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra survived a no-confidence vote in parliament on Wednesday after securing enough support among the lawmakers to remain in office.

The no-confidence motion against Paetongtarn was rejected by 319 legislators, with 162 supporting it and seven abstaining from voting, House Speaker Wan Muhamad Noor Matha announced in a televised broadcast of the parliamentary session.

The no-confidence motion against Paetongtarn was initiated by the opposition, accusing Paetongtarn of a lack of ruling experience and ineffective governance.

This is the first time Paetongtarn has faced a no-confidence motion vote since taking office in September 2024. She was elected the country's 31st prime minister in August 2024 after winning a simple majority in a parliamentary vote.
