Egypt, Britain discuss ways to de-escalate Israel-Iran conflict

21/6/2025 7:58
Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty and British Foreign Secretary David Lammy discussed over a phone call on Friday the latest developments in the Middle East and ways to halt military escalation between Israel and Iran.

During the call, the two sides exchanged views and assessments regarding the rapidly evolving situation in the region, the Egyptian Foreign Ministry said in a statement.

Abdelatty outlined Egypt's stance, which calls for an immediate de-escalation of tensions, a ceasefire, and the resumption of diplomatic efforts to reach an agreement on the Iranian nuclear program.

He also emphasized that these steps are crucial to prevent further exacerbation of the situation in the region, highlighting the critical importance of continued efforts by European nations and the need for concerted international efforts to contain the crisis and avoid a wider conflict.

The two top diplomats agreed to continue coordination, consultation, and joint work to de-escalate tensions in the region and leverage available diplomatic channels to achieve calm.
