A male suspect involved in a car theft case hanged himself

A male suspect involved in a car theft case hanged himself in the detention room of Kwai Chung Police Station while being detained in solitary confinement and was confirmed dead after being sent to the hospital.



A 34-year-old man who was arrested for suspected car theft was found hanging in the detention room of Kwai Chung Police Station at around 4pm yesterday. He was unconscious and was sent to Yan Chai Hospital for emergency treatment and was confirmed dead.



The case was handed over to the New Territories South Regional Crime Unit for follow-up. The cause of the incident is pending investigation and the cause of death is pending autopsy.



It is reported that the male suspect was involved in a car theft case, had a criminal record and a habit of drug abuse. While being detained in the solitary confinement room, he was suspected to have hanged himself with his trouser belt and eventually died.
