A 10-month-old boy is infected with measles, and the number of people involved in the measles cluster has increased to 4. The 4 related cases include this 10-month-old boy and three members of a family.
The Center for Health Protection announced last Wednesday that a 29-year-old father and a 6-month-old boy were infected with measles. The center announced another measles case yesterday, involving a 10-month-old boy, who was a close contact of the previous two cases and had visited a private clinic in Jordan during the infectious period. The other two members of the family involved and the other 20 close contacts who visited the clinic have not shown any symptoms so far and are continuing to receive medical surveillance. Preliminary investigations have not found that this group of cases has an epidemiological connection with other confirmed cases recorded earlier in Hong Kong.
During the medical surveillance of close contacts by the Center for Health Protection, it was found that the 10-month-old boy had a fever on Monday this week. The next day, he developed a rash and was immediately sent to Queen Elizabeth Hospital for treatment and isolation. After nucleic acid testing, the patient's respiratory sample was confirmed to be infected with measles. He is still in hospital and his condition is stable. The boy has not yet received the first dose of measles vaccine at the appropriate age. He did not travel abroad during the incubation period. It is believed that his source of infection is related to the two confirmed measles cases earlier. The five household contacts of the boy are currently asymptomatic and are under medical surveillance.
