A male worker was trapped and injured while repairing the drawbridge at the East Coast Boardwalk in North Point. The authorities have suspended similar maintenance inspections.
The incident happened at around 1pm yesterday. An industrial accident occurred at the East Coast Boardwalk in North Point. A 32-year-old male maintenance worker was trapped and injured in the chest by the suddenly closed drawbridge while working. After being rescued by firefighters, he was sent to Eastern District Hospital for treatment.
The Labour Department is investigating. The Development Bureau said that the drawbridge at the East Coast Boardwalk has been operating normally and maintenance inspections have been arranged recently. The workers involved were carrying out related work when the accident occurred. In view of this accident, similar maintenance inspections have been suspended. The Civil Engineering and Development Department has instructed the consultant and contractor to investigate the cause of the accident and submit a report. The engineering team will take effective safety measures based on the investigation results to prevent similar incidents from happening again.
