China reviews revision to prison law, including provisions for foreign inmates

A draft revision to China's Prison Law was on Monday submitted to the 17th session of the Standing Committee of the 14th National People's Congress (NPC) for its second reading.



The draft introduces provisions concerning foreign inmates, stipulating that their lawful rights and interests be protected and that they receive fair and just treatment during the execution of their sentences.



Visits for foreign inmates should be handled in line with relevant regulations, while prisoner transfers must be carried out in accordance with laws -- such as the Law on International Judicial Assistance in Criminal Matters, per the draft.
