Italy expresses solidarity with Qatar after Israel strikes Hamas in Doha

Italy on Tuesday expressed solidarity with Qatar after Israel's air strike on Hamas in Doha, and called for avoiding further escalation in the region.



"On behalf of myself and the Italian Government, I express my sincere sympathy to Emir Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani and Qatar, reiterating Italy's support for all efforts to end the war in Gaza," Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni said on X adding that "Italy remains opposed to any form of escalation that could further aggravate the crisis in the Middle East",



"The attacks have damaged the sovereignty of a friendly country that has been working for months to stop the war in Gaza and to help Israel itself recover the hostages still in the hands of Hamas terrorists", Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani said in a statement.



"The ceasefire, negotiations and a definitive truce are essential steps to avoid a new crisis that would be even more devastating and dangerous for the entire Middle East", he added.
