The Commissioner's Office expressed strong dissatisfaction and resolute opposition to the EU's 2024 report on Hong Kong, criticizing the EU's meddling in Hong Kong affairs, undermining the rule of law and human rights in the city, and smearing the National Security Law and Regulation.
The Commissioner's Office stated that the formulation and implementation of the Hong Kong National Security Law and Regulation fully conform to the spirit of the rule of law and international practices, providing strong guarantees for Hong Kong's high-quality development and high-level opening up. It also stated that the HKSAR's impartial handling of cases in accordance with the law and resolutely cracking down on acts and activities endangering national security are essential steps to safeguard national security and the rule of law. It criticized the EU for openly supporting anti-China and Hong Kong-disrupting elements who incite secession and subversion, and interfering in the HKSAR's judicial system, which is a serious violation of the rule of law.
The Commissioner's Office also pointed out that the EU has disregarded international conventions and the legal practices of various countries, as well as its own human rights issues, while interfering in Hong Kong affairs under the guise of human rights and the rule of law. This is a typical double standard that blatantly violates international law and basic norms of international relations.
