Sri Lanka suspends about 350 police officers past year

Around 350 police officers have been suspended from duty over the past year for involvement in unlawful activities, a senior Sri Lankan minister said on Wednesday.
Minister of Public Security and Parliamentary Affairs Ananda Wijepala said suspensions were part of measures to depoliticize the police service and restore discipline when addressing an event at Kalutara Police Training College.
He said past opinion polls showed that the public's perception of the police was negative due to the actions of a handful of individuals.
