UN Security Council renews sanctions against Sudan

13/9/2025 6:18
The Security Council on Friday adopted a resolution to renew sanctions against Sudan in relation to the Darfur region for a year.

Resolution 2791, which was adopted unanimously by the 15-member council, renews the sanctions regime, including an arms embargo and targeted measures of travel ban and asset freeze, until Sept. 12, 2026.

The resolution extends the mandate of the Panel of Experts that assists the Sudan Sanctions Committee beyond March 12, 2026, until Oct. 12, 2026, for the purpose of aligning the timelines for the renewal of the sanctions and the mandate of the panel.

It requests the panel to provide the Security Council with a final report by July 13, 2026, with its findings and recommendations, according to a Security Council document.
