A pair of giant pandas are enroute to Hong Kong

26/9/2024 5:54
A pair of giant pandas, a gift by the central government to Hong Kong, departed Sichuan for Hong Kong.

At around 2:00 am, the giant pandas "An An" and "Ke Ke" were put into their respective cages with bamboo leaves and apples. The pair can be seen walking around with amusement and looking out from inside their cages.

Several staff members of the China Giant Panda Conservation and Research Center held banners and heart-shaped signs with photos of "An An" and "Ke Ke" to send them off. They departed from Chengdu Shuangliu International Airport accompanied by two experts from the Hong Kong Ocean Park nursing staff and the China Giant Panda Conservation and Research Center.

The Hong Kong government and Ocean Park have made preparations to welcome the two 5-year-old giant pandas. After they arrive in Hong Kong today, they will start their life in Hong Kong and will undergo at least 30 days of quarantine and will need at least 30 days to adapt. Under the new environment, experts will evaluate the appropriate time for the public to meet the pair. The authorities are hoping this would come in mid-December.
