Reports of white powder in letters received by police

17/10/2024 5:39
The police claimed that there were reports of letters received containing white powder, which was confirmed to be non-toxic, and the cases were classified as criminal intimidation. Sources indicate that at least three insurance companies are involved.

The police received a report at around 1:00 pm Tuesday that an employee of an insurance company in San Po Kong received a letter with the words "contains anthrax" and attached white powder, and 51 people were evacuated.

Police Explosive Ordinance Disposal Bureau personnel and fire fighters attended the scene

After inspection, it was suspected to be glass powder and contained no explosives. The police later received reports from employees of three company offices in Kowloon Bay, Quarry Bay and Kwun Tong, saying that they had received similar letters and a staff from one of them reported feeling unwell.

It is understood that similar letters were received by direct sales centers last month. The police are investigating whether there is any connection with this case and are following up with the Crime Squad of East Kowloon Police District.
