5.2 magnitude quake hits northern Greece

An earthquake with a magnitude of 5.2 on the Richter scale jolted the Chalkidiki peninsula in northern Greece on Sunday, according to the National Observatory of Athens. No injuries or major damages have been reported so far, although scientists reported two aftershocks of 4.3 and 2.8 magnitude a few minutes later. The epicenter, with a depth of 15.9 km, was traced in the sea area off the western coasts of the peninsula south of Thessaloniki port city, according to Greek scientists. Initial reports, according to the GFZ German Research Centre for Geosciences, estimated the quake at a magnitude of 5.7, while the European Mediterranean Seismological Center reported it at 5.3 on the Richter scale.
