In response to the New Year's Eve countdown fireworks display, Chief Secretary for Administration Chan Kwok-kee chaired a meeting of the inter-departmental working group on festival arrangements.
The Hong Kong SAR Government and the Shenzhen Municipal Government have discussed extending the customs service hours on New Year's Eve, including proposing that the passenger clearance service at the Shenzhen Bay Port be changed from closing at 12 a.m. to an all-night service; and that the closing time at the Lo Wu Port be extended from midnight to 2 a.m. the next day, pending the approval of the national port department. In addition, the Transport Department will increase the frequency of Jinba, Huangba and cross-border through buses, and will set up dedicated public transportation channels at each port when necessary to ensure public transportation runs smoothly.
MTR will also extend the East Rail Line's services to and from Lo Wu Station accordingly. Most railway lines will provide all-night services on New Year's Eve. In addition, there will be bus routes between MTR Sheung Shui Station and San Tin Wong Bus Station. Passengers can take the bus to Lok Ma Chau/Huanggang Port after the East Rail Line service to Lo Wu is completed.
The Police Force will announce in detail the crowd management and special traffic arrangements for the New Year's Eve countdown fireworks display later this month.
