USPS resumes accepting parcels from mainland China and Hong Kong

The U.S. Postal Service has resumed accepting packages from mainland China and Hong Kong.



The US Postal Service once announced that it would stop accepting parcels from mainland China and Hong Kong, but letters would not be affected. Later, it changed its tone and announced that starting from Wednesday, the US Postal Service will continue to accept all international inbound mail and parcels from China and Hong Kong Post, and is working closely with the US Customs and Border Protection to implement an effective collection mechanism for the new tariffs against China to minimize the disruption to parcel delivery. The US authorities announced earlier that they would suspend the exemption of tariffs on small parcels with a value of US$800 or less, and the 10% tariff on Chinese imports has come into effect and applies to Hong Kong.



The Hong Kong government expressed strong dissatisfaction with the US's actions and urged it to correct its mistakes. Otherwise, it would defend its legitimate rights and interests through the WTO and other channels. Before the US changed its policy, Hong Kong Post announced that it would suspend the acceptance of mail containing goods sent to the US from today, while other mail containing documents would not be affected. Mail entering the US on or after February 4, if it contains goods, will be returned to Hong Kong. Hong Kong Post will arrange to return it to the sender and continue to review and carefully evaluate the new regulations to handle related matters.
