The Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) government on Tuesday strongly condemned the U.S. decision to put six officials of central authorities and the HKSAR on a so-called "sanctions" list to intimidate relevant officials who are committed to safeguarding national security.
HKSAR officials despise such so-called "sanctions," said a spokesperson for the HKSAR government. They will continue to resolutely fulfill the duty of safeguarding national security. The HKSAR government will make every effort to protect the legitimate rights and interests of all personnel, according to the spokesperson.
The absconders mentioned in the U.S. statement are wanted and have arrest warrants issued by the court against them because they continued to blatantly engage in activities endangering national security after fleeing to the United States, Britain and Australia, said the spokesperson, adding that it is imperative that the HKSAR take all lawful measures to strongly combat such acts.
