The second phase of the "Human Papillomavirus (HPV) Vaccination Catch-up Program" has been launched, providing free HPV vaccines to female Hong Kong residents born between 2004 and 2008, currently studying in local tertiary institutions, and registered with eHealth. ️
HPV vaccines are very effective in preventing the most common high-risk HPV types that cause cervical cancer. As of March 31, all post-secondary institutions invited by the Centre for Health Protection of the Department of Health have expressed their participation. Among them, 6 institutions have launched activities in mid-March, providing HPV vaccinations to eligible female students at the institution's health care department or by arranging outreach teams to visit campuses. Students can also inquire about the vaccination arrangements of their institutions from the Office of Student Affairs.
The third phase of the program is expected to be launched in the first half of this year. The target is female Hong Kong residents born between 2004 and 2008 who have completed local studies. It will also cover the remaining female Hong Kong residents born between 2004 and 2008 who have not completed HPV vaccination. Details will be announced in due course. This program is a one-off special arrangement for about two years. Eligible female Hong Kong residents who do not participate in the program may need to pay for vaccination in the future.
