At least 1 killed in fresh U.S. airstrikes on Yemeni port

3/4/2025 6:15
At least one person was killed and another injured on Wednesday evening in fresh U.S. airstrikes on Yemen's port of Salif in the Red Sea city of Hodeidah, Houthi media reported.

The port, which is used for importing fuel, has been frequently targeted by U.S. and Israeli airstrikes in recent months in retaliation for the Houthis' attacks on Israel-linked ships transiting the Red Sea.

The bombing of Hodeidah coincided with a series of other air raids targeting several locations in the capital, Sanaa, and the northern province of Saada.

According to Houthi-run al-Masirah TV, an airstrike hit a car in the Kuhaza area on Sanaa's southern outskirts, while another 17 airstrikes targeted the Kahlan military camp in the eastern part of Saada's namesake central city. No casualties were reported.

The new wave of U.S. airstrikes came hours after the Houthi group announced it had launched multiple missile attacks against the U.S. aircraft carrier USS Harry S. Truman in the northern Red Sea. The U.S. navy stationed in the region has not yet commented on the alleged Houthi attack.

Tensions between the Houthis and the U.S. military have escalated since Washington launched fresh airstrikes on Yemen on March 15.

The Houthis, who control much of northern Yemen, have been launching regular rocket and drone attacks against Israel and disrupting "Israeli-linked" shipping in the Red Sea since November 2023 to show solidarity with Palestinians in Gaza amid their conflict with Israelis.
