151 people injured after jumping from heights to escape

A 6.2 magnitude earthquake struck Istanbul, Turkey, and more than a hundred people were injured after jumping from high places to escape.



The Istanbul governor's office said 151 people were injured after jumping from buildings in panic during the earthquake and were taken to hospital for treatment, but no one was in critical condition.



In addition, an abandoned building collapsed in the city center, but no one was injured, and the city's energy and water infrastructure was not damaged, but some shops were closed.



The earthquake occurred at around 1:00 p.m. local time Wednesday, with the epicenter located in Silivri, about 80 kilometers west of Istanbul and on the Marmara coast, with a focal depth of about 7 kilometers. As of 3:12 p.m., a total of 51 aftershocks were recorded, the largest of which was 5.9 in magnitude.



More than two years ago, Türkiye was hit by a 7.8 magnitude earthquake, which killed more than 55,000 people and injured more than 107,000 in southern Türkiye and northern Syria.
