A 16-month-old boy was infected with both the novel coronavirus and rhinovirus or enterovirus and suffered from hoarseness. He is in critical condition and is in the pediatric intensive care unit.
The Centre for Health Protection's preliminary investigation showed that the baby boy had not received the COVID-19 vaccine and had been to Taipei during the incubation period. Two of his household contacts tested positive for COVID-19, one of whom had respiratory symptoms.
The Center for Health Protection said that in the week ending April 19, the rate of confirmed COVID-19 tests using respiratory samples rose from 1.71 percent in the week from March 16 to 22 to 8.21 percent, a six-month high.
