Israel reports 2nd rocket salvo from Gaza

Another salvo of rockets was launched from the Gaza Strip toward Israel on Wednesday night but fell short and landed within the enclave, the Israeli military said.

The latest barrage, consisting of three rockets, triggered warning sirens in the Israeli border communities of Netiv HaAsara and Zikim. No injuries or damage were reported.

"Three projectiles were identified from the northern Gaza Strip. The projectiles did not cross into Israeli territory and fell in the Gaza Strip," the military said in a statement.

It was the second such incident reported since Wednesday evening, amid escalating hostilities following Israel's launch of Operation Gideon's Chariots on Saturday -- a significant intensification of its 19-month military campaign in Gaza.

Health authorities in Gaza said on Wednesday that hundreds have been killed in the first five days of the new operation, bringing the total Palestinian death toll to 53,655 since the conflict began in October 2023.
