Italy, Argentina adopt joint action plan for cooperation

7/6/2025 14:14
Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni and Argentine President Javier Milei on Friday jointly adopted the Italy-Argentina Action Plan 2025-2030 aimed at dramatically strengthening bilateral ties.

The move was made during Milei's visit to Rome, his first stop on a ten-day swing through Europe and Israel.

The plan, announced in broad terms during Meloni's visit to Argentina last November, facilitates cooperation between Rome and Buenos Aires in an array of sectors, including energy, infrastructure, critical raw materials, aviation, space and tourism. It also strengthens security and judicial cooperation, including the fight against organized crime and drug trafficking.

Following the adoption of the plan, implementation will be carried out by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of both countries.

Meloni and Milei met for around two hours late on Friday. According to a statement from Meloni's office, the leaders discussed "strengthening the already strong bilateral partnership between Italy and Argentina, based on shared values and on deep cultural links between the two nations."

Both leaders, according to the statement, expressed their support for greater cooperation between the European Union and the South American trade bloc Mercosur.
