Turkish police detain over 2,300 suspects in anti-drugs operation

Turkish police detained 2,311 suspects in anti-narcotic operations conducted over the past three weeks, a cabinet minister said Tuesday.
The police teams seized 1.24 tonnes of narcotics and 5.3 million drug pills across 75 provinces, Interior Minister Ali Yerlikaya said on social media platform X.
Yerlikaya stated that the coordinated operations involved 3,335 teams, 8,340 personnel, 37 aerial vehicles, and 53 narcotic detection dogs.
Major cities involved included Izmir, Ankara, Gaziantep, Adana, Samsun, Konya, Istanbul, Bursa, Sanliurfa, Mersin, and Antalya, he noted.
Turkiye, often used by illegal drug dealers as a transit hub, has been conducting extensive operations domestically and internationally on drug smuggling.
