At least 14 Palestinians, including a civil defense officer, were killed on Sunday in an Israeli airstrike on a college building west of Khan Younis, the southern Gaza Strip, according to Palestinian sources.
Israeli aircraft fired at least one missile at the building housing displaced persons in the al-Mawasi area west of Khan Younis, according to eyewitnesses.
Medics told Xinhua that all of the recovered bodies, as well as the wounded, were transferred to hospitals.
The airstrike killed Hani al-Dabour, a civil defense officer, and injured several crew members, the authority said in a statement, calling on the international community to assume their responsibilities to stop "Israeli crimes and provide full protection for our working crews."
In a statement on Sunday, the Israel Defense Forces said troops of the Paratroopers Brigade, under the command of the 36th Division, completed their mission in the Khan Younis area of the Gaza Strip.
"During the operations, the troops eliminated terrorists in close-quarters combat and in cooperation with the Israeli Air Force. They dismantled terror infrastructure, including military structures, weapons storage facilities, arms, and explosives," it said.
On March 18, Israel resumed its military operations in the enclave. At least 8,066 Palestinians have been killed and 28,939 others injured since Israel renewed its intensive strikes, bringing the total death toll since October 2023 to 58,895, and injuries to 140,980, Gaza-based health authorities said on Sunday.
