2 armed robbers killed, 3 detained in N. Afghanistan

Police have gunned down two armed robbers and arrested three others in northern Afghanistan's Kunduz and Balkh provinces on Tuesday, officials said Wednesday.
In the first incident, which took place in Imam Sahib district of Kunduz province on Tuesday morning, police wanted to arrest two armed robbers, but they resisted and were finally killed in a clash with police, a statement of the provincial police office confirmed.
Police also recovered a Kalashnikov assault rifle and 150,000 afghani (around 2,200 U.S. dollars) cash from their possessions.
In similar operations against criminal elements, police arrested three thieves from Balkh provincial capital Mazar-i-Sharif and discovered more than 3,000 U.S dollars in their possession, provincial police spokesman Hafiz Mohammad Eisa Wasiq said.
