S. Korea cannot be diplomatic partner

A senior official of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) sharply criticized the "appeasement offensive" by the South Korean government, ruling out again any possibilities of diplomatic engagement between the two Koreas, state media said on Wednesday.

Kim Yo Jong, vice department director of the Central Committee of the Workers' Party of Korea, derided the "offensive" during an analysis of the latest statements by the new South Korean government, which she called "deceptive."

Kim was speaking at a consultative meeting with the DPRK Foreign Ministry officials a day earlier, the official Korean Central News Agency (KCNA) reported. She said that the Republic of Korea (ROK) has invariably pursued the ambition for confrontation with the DPRK.

The remarks rejected South Korea's claims that it respects the social system of the DPRK, will not seek any form of unification through assimilation, and has no intention of committing any hostile acts.

The ROK is testing a plan to remove the DPRK's nuclear and missile capabilities and expand an attack into its territory through the current joint military drill, Kim was quoted by the KCNA as saying, in reference to the ongoing annual combined Ulchi Freedom Shield exercise between the United States and South Korea.

"South Korea has an ulterior motive to finally shift the responsibility for the DPRK-ROK relations failing to recover onto the DPRK," the senior official said, adding that "the ROK cannot be a diplomatic partner of the DPRK," according to the KCNA report.
