Iran condemns deadly terror attack on Pakistani nationals

14/4/2025 6:21
Iran on Sunday condemned a deadly attack that killed eight Pakistani nationals in the southeastern province of Sistan and Baluchestan, vowing to bring those responsible to justice.

Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmaeil Baghaei said in a statement that the killings were a "terrorist act" that violated Islamic principles and international humanitarian norms. He extended condolences to the victims' families and the government and people of Pakistan.

The attack took place late Saturday in Mehrestan County, where unidentified gunmen stormed an automobile repair shop, tied up the workers, and shot them at point-blank range, according to Iran's semi-official Rokna news agency.

Iran's judiciary and security bodies "will spare no effort" in identifying and prosecuting the perpetrators, Baghaei said.

He reiterated Iran's opposition to all forms of terrorism and called for stronger national and regional cooperation to combat what he described as the "evil phenomenon" of terrorism.

Pakistan's Dawn newspaper reported that the Balochistan National Army, a separatist militant group in Pakistan, claimed responsibility for the attack. It cited Iranian officials saying that all eight victims were from Punjab, western Pakistan.

The Iranian embassy in Islamabad also condemned the attack in a post on social media platform X, describing it as "inhumane and cowardly," and urged joint efforts to combat terrorism and extremism in the region.
