3 killed, 3 injured in Israeli airstrike in S. Lebanon

13/9/2024 6:23
Three people were killed and three others were wounded in an Israeli airstrike in southern Lebanon's Nabatieh city on Thursday, according to Lebanese sources.
Military sources, who spoke anonymously, told Xinhua that an Israeli drone fired an air-to-ground missile at two motorcycles and a nearby car traveling on the city road, killing three individuals and wounding three more.
The sources added that rescue crews have worked to transfer the casualties to a hospital in the city and to extinguish a fire at the targeted site and its surroundings.
The Emergency Operations Center of the Lebanese Public Health Ministry confirmed the strike and casualties, saying a child was among the wounded.
Israeli forces carried out seven air raids on five border towns and villages in southern Lebanon and shelled nine others in the area on Thursday afternoon, according to military sources.
They added that army positions have monitored the launch of dozens of Katyusha rockets and several drones from Lebanon towards northern Israel.
Meanwhile, Hezbollah stated that its fighters had targeted gatherings of Israeli soldiers near the Zarit Barrack and in the Al-Malikiyah area in the Upper Galilee, as well as the Al-Abbad site and artillery positions in Ein Ya'akov, a moshav in northern Israel, with suicide drones and Katyusha rockets.
Tensions along the Lebanon-Israel border escalated on Oct. 8, 2023, following a barrage of rockets launched by Hezbollah toward Israel in solidarity with Hamas' attack on Israel the day before.
Israel then retaliated by pounding southern Lebanon, where Hezbollah builds numerous weapons caches, tunnels, and bunkers, with heavy artillery.
