15/8/2024 6:04
The Hong Kong government’s random inspections on aquatic products imported from Japan found no radiation levels exceeding safety standards.

The Japanese authorities have discharged nuclear wastewater into the sea from the Fukushima Nuclear Power Plant since August 24 last year; the Hong Kong SAR government immediately banned the import of seafood from ten local prefectures and conducts daily testing of aquatic products from the rest of Japan. The Hong Kong Center for Food Safety stated that from noon on Tuesday until the same time on Wednesday, 265 imported food samples of Japanese aquatic products, seaweed and sea salt were tested, and no radiation levels were found to exceed safety standards; at the same time, the Agriculture, Fisheries and Conservation Department has tested 50 local fish product samples and all samples passed. The Hong Kong Observatory has stepped up monitoring of environmental radiation levels in Hong Kong waters, and so far, no abnormalities have been found. From August 24 last year to noon yesterday, the Center for Food Safety and the Agriculture, Fisheries and Conservation Department tested a total of 76,337 food samp
les imported from Japan and a total of 17,698 local fish product samples for radiation levels, and all samples passed the test.
