The Tobacco and Alcohol Control Office of the Department of Health has stepped up its crackdown on illegal water pipe smoking, and issued a total of 11 fixed penalty notices to illegal water pipe smokers in a bar in Tsim Sha Tsui.

The office said that the investigation is still ongoing and will consider prosecuting bars suspected of aiding and abetting smoking crimes, and notify the Liquor Licensing Board of the violations.

The office added that in the past 12 months, a total of 105 actions were taken against illegal water pipe smoking in no-smoking areas, and 145 fixed penalty notices were issued to illegal smokers. 74 summonses were issued to shop assistants and bar and restaurant owners for other related offences.
