The severe heat warning issued by the Observatory at 6:45 yesterday morning is now in effect. The Observatory stated that Hong Kong is affected by persistent high temperature weather. The public should be more vigilant to prevent heat stroke or discomfort caused by extreme heat, and pay attention to their physical condition. If symptoms such as dizziness, headache, nausea, shortness of breath and confusion occur, they should seek medical advice. Get rest and seek help immediately, and seek medical attention as soon as possible. The elderly, pregnant women, infants and children, patients with chronic diseases such as heart disease or high blood pressure, and people who are overweight are more susceptible to heatstroke and should be observed promptly for signs of heatstroke. People who work in hot weather or in high-temperature environments can refer to the Labor Department’s guidelines on preventing heatstroke at work and take necessary measures to prevent heatstroke. People who engage in outdoor activities should drink more water and avoid overexertion. If you feel unwell, you should go to a cool place to rest as soon as possible. Outdoor activities should be arranged in the morning or later in the afternoon. When doing indoor activities, you should also replenish water in a timely manner. If there is no air conditioning equipment indoors, you should try to open windows and use fans to maintain air circulation. You can also use public facilities to escape the heat. Avoid prolonged exposure to the sun to avoid sunburn from the sun's ultraviolet rays. Wear light-colored, breathable clothing, a wide-brimmed hat, and UV-blocking sunglasses. Wear an extra SPF of at least 15 (ideally more High) broad-spectrum sunscreen and reapply every two hours or more after being in the sun, or after swimming, sweating, or toweling off. Pay more attention to the health of the elderly or patients with chronic diseases. If you know them, call or visit them from time to time, and pay attention to whether the ventilation and air-conditioning equipment in their residences are functioning properly. People who are more susceptible to heat stroke should avoid outdoor activities and stay away from high temperature environments. Go to a cool, ventilated or air-conditioned area.
