Iraqi militant group claims drone attacks on targets in N. Israel

The Islamic Resistance in Iraq, a Shiite militia group, claimed responsibility on Wednesday for three drone attacks at dawn on three sites in northern Israel. In an online statement, the group said that the attack was conducted "in solidarity with the people of the Gaza Strip" and pledged to continue targeting "the enemy's strongholds." The statement did not provide further details about the attacked site or report any casualties. These attacks came after Iran's launch of approximately 180 ballistic missiles at targets in Israel Tuesday evening. Tehran said the missile attacks were in retaliation for Israel's assassinations of Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh, Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah, and senior IRGC commander Abbas Nilforoushan. Since the escalation of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict in Gaza on Oct. 7, 2023, the Islamic Resistance in Iraq has conducted multiple strikes against Israeli and U.S. targets in the region to show support for Palestinians in Gaza.
