12/10/2024 13:00
Niamey Region Governor General Assoumane Abdou, accompanied by members of the regional security council, proceeded on Friday to incinerate 915 tonnes of illegally imported pharmaceutical products, as well as more than 51,000 shisha items, on the outskirts of the capital.

This move aims to protect the health of the population, especially that of young people. The governor said, the illegal items were seized during several control operations by various units of the Niamey customs throughout the year.

"It is essential that everyone can find dignified means of subsistence, because we can no longer tolerate traders or ordinary citizens bringing illicit products into the country, particularly pharmaceutical products, to sell them to the population," the governor said, calling on everyone to become aware that improving the health of the population is a collective responsibility.
